A tricky one.

I am a self employed tattoo artist, I have my own Permit to Operate, my own Business Liscense, and I pay my own taxes. I do not rent a booth out of the shop but give a percentage of each tattoo that I do. There is a rumor going around the shop that the owner wants to fire me. Can he since I am an independent contractor??

No, but depending on the terms, he can decide to terminate your 'contract'.
