As I was backing out of a parking space, I hit a car that was moving past me. There was no damage to my car at all. At first, the other driver said there was no damage to hers either, but then she said there was a dent behind her driver's door. The dent seems rather large to have been caused by a low speed impact with no paint exchange and I am wonder why she didn't immediately notice such a dent. She called her insurance company and they amazingly did not recommend getting the police involved. We exchanged info, and agreed that she would contact me with estimates.
However, after I left, I began wondering if the damage could have occurred previously. Should I bite the bullet and pay for damage I might not have caused, or could some kind of investigation still be helpful (i.e. measure height of dent on her car and compare to mine or a check the age of the damage by someone with expertice)?
