What is the name of your state?CA

In California, you gain adverse posession of property after only five years of "open and notorious use" and payment of taxes.

I did a survey last month and learned (to my surprise) that my garage foundation is 4 inches onto my neighbor's property. My backyard fence is two feet onto his property. This has been this way for the 15 years that I've lived here. So the property is mine, if I pay taxes on it for five years.

How do I pay taxes on the extra property? I sure don't want my neighbor to know that I'm paying this extra tax!

Should I write my county tax assessor an annual check for a hundred dollars?
