What is the name of your state? California

We recently transferred title to my 18 year old stepson's vehicle from my wife to him, to reduce our liability exposure . I've heard that if because he lives in our household and parks in our driveway or on our street we could still be liable for damage or injury caused by him. Is this true? If so, what should we do to reduce our exposure short of getting him his own place to live? Thanks
