What is the name of your state? Arizona

Can a person be required to work 7 days a week, when they are working 40 hours in 5 days? Can that person be fired for not showing up for work, or saying they are not available to work on a Sunday, when they have already worked in excess of 48 hours in 6 days?

Thank you.

Can a person be required to work 7 days a week, when they are working 40 hours in 5 days? Yes, they can. While there are some states that require you to be given one day off out of seven, Arizona is not one of them. (And note that even in the states that do have such a requirement, you can be made to work 12 days in a row and still be in compliance with the law.) As far as the way the law reads, you can be made to work 365 days a year.

Can that person be fired for not showing up for work, or saying they are not available to work on a Sunday, when they have already worked in excess of 48 hours in 6 days? Yes, they can. The only exception to that would be if the employee was able to provide convincing evidence to the effect that his religion forbade him to work on Sundays, and even then, depending on the exact circumstances, it still might be possible for him to be fired.
