What is the name of your state? MI

My 16 old nephew was pulled over for a DUI in December of 2003. The ticket that he received was singed by his mom and stated that the juvenile court would contact them on a court date. To this date they have received nothing. What should they do, and what if any is the statue of limitations?

The citation acts as the charge already, meaning the statue of limitations no longer applies.

If you're curious, call the court and ask the status.

What are you talking about? That is not correct at all. I have a question however. Why is the mother signing a ticket for a person pulled over for a DUI?

Inquiring minds want to know. :confused:

No, that is correct.

The statue of limitations means time from offense committed to charged. A citation acts as the charge itself.

Why did the mother sign it? Simple. 16 y/o = juvenile.

Actually, it does not mean that at all. A "statue of limitations" is a physical representation of limitations. How you'd depict that in stone or metal or wood or anything else, I don't know.

(pssssst - the word(s) you're looking for are "statuTe of limitations")

WRONG. The prosecutor decides if the party will be charged. Michigan has a general 6 year statute of limitations on criminal cases.

MI might allow for the officer to drive the suspect minor home and then release them to their parents with a signed promise to appear by the parent. We can do it here as well, though we generally get a signature from both the parent and the minor.
