What is the name of your state? Kentucky
In Kentucky, how old does a child in college have to be to leave home, and move to another state to enroll in another college without his/her parents permission? Said child will be 18 in November. If legal action can be taken by the parents against the child, how often is this law enforced? Said child will be 18 in November.

At 18 the "child" is an adult. As an adult they can make their own decisions. However, unless otherwise legally obligated, if they decide to move out and go to school elsewhere, the parents are under no obligation to assist them.

Assistance from the parents is not requested. But at 17 does a minor have the ability to leave home without parental concent and without legal consequences.

No. As a minor, they are generally required to remain under their parents' authority until the age of 18 or until they can convince a court that they should be emancipated.

Depending on the state, the child might not be dragged back home if they bolted ... but they could certainly be reported as a runaway or unruly/disobedient child (depending on appropriate and applicable state laws).

WHY are you dead set against your son going to college in another state?
Thank you stealth2, that is my burning question too. The child will be 18 in a matter of a couple months anyway.

Maybe it is a case of empty nest syndrome.

Support your child and help him/her become a successful, independent adult.
