What is the name of your state? IL
The charge: Class A Misdemeanor

When a judge ceases a criminal case, it is considered a dismissal.
When the prosecution ceases to prosecute, it is called a nolle prosequi.

Other than the obvious difference as to which party initiates the cessation of the criminal case, what differences are there between the two?

Thanks.
