What is the name of your state? CA

An Asian nurse I know has hired an immigration attorney to file for change of sponsorship due to employment change. The attorney has a business arrangement with her fellow Asian people to procure clients; I suspect they give legal advice as she has never had an occasion to talk with the attorney.

The attorney's office did some work for her in the recent past, e.g., work permits and always demanded pre-payment, and change of sponsorship was no different. Prior to any work being initiated the nurse informed them not to proceed with the change of sponsorship but would not refund her money. They stated that it is their policy not to refund fees not earned. What should she do? Thank for your advice.

When she hired them for the change of sponsorship, did she sign any papers that mention the work was just for that purpose?

She could complain to the local bar association, but since it's possible she might need this attorney's assistance in the future, she would be better off not doing anything about it. How much money are we talking about here?

The situation is a bit dicey because she is the one changing her mind on a service that she previously agreed to.
