What is the name of your state? MO

I am thinking about Firing a lawyer whom I have retained for representing
me in a child custody / visitation case. Petition/ Pleadings have been filed already by this lawyer but, diligence and understanding have become a problem since the filing (whom was actually endorsed by the owner of the firm). What is the next step to resolving these problems with the lawyer
without creating problems with the case itself, if that's possible?
A 'retainer' has been paid to the firm already too.
