What is the name of your state?Virginia
I start probation this week for an underage possession of alcohol charge and had a few questions about the procedure. Firstly, involving the random drug testing, how much notice will I be given prior to the time I have to report for testing? I ask because the probation office is 4 miles away from my apartment and I have no means of transportation other than walking. This means that getting to the office in very short notice will likely be impossible. Secondly, will I be allowed to travel within the state during my probation without having to worried about being called in for a drug test while out of town, provided I clear the travel with my probation officer? I was planning to go home for thanksgiving, but don't want to have to make a 3 hour drive back just to take a drug test. Thanks for any help

My response:

You don't seem to "get it". Let me help you to understand.

Your time is no longer yours. You don't call the shots anymore. You do as your told, as if you were in jail or prison. You're not in jail or prison because the law allows you to do your time on the "outside". But, the moment you mess up, you're going to jail or prison to do your time. No Thanksgiving dinners, no Christmas, no nothing. That way, you'll really have no control, and you'll have someone else to tell you what to do, and when to do it.

You better snap out of your dream world and take hold of "reality" - - real quick.

Heros don't have to take Viagra. It's part of the definition.

IAAL is my hero too, but this actually refers to a comment in I AM NOT LIABLE's biography.

Probation officers usually tell you when and where to report for ua's. they are too busy with their caseload to suprise most clients. However it has been known to happen. Best bet is stay clean. You mess up probation and they got u by the short hairs.

Out here, our really good probation officers have a trunk full of cups. They will show up at homes and offices and smile as they tell their charge to "Fill 'er up!"

Otherwise, they can be scheduled (usually with no more than one or two days notice).
