WISCONSIN:

I broke my collar bone back in April of 04. I went to the emergency room, got fitted with a harness/sling, then went to see a specialist a few days later.

The specialist adjusted the sling and said it should heal fine, and should come back in about 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, I returned, got an xray, and was told it is looking fine... and to come back next month for another visit. This went on until June.

At that June visit, I was xrayed, and upon viewing the xray, the dr expressed concern that there wasn't new bone growth. On the xray, you could visibly see the gap between the two bones, as there had been since it was broken. I was told to come back in July... which I did.

In the July visit, another xray was taken. It'd looked identical to the previous xray. THIS time, he said don't worry, it's fine... come back in mid November.

If I go there come November, and it STILL isn't healed, doesn't something seem wrong? It takes 7+ months for a bone to heal? Also, the two bone ends are not aligned straight. I can feel a huge bump where one end is slightly higher than the other.

If the xray a a few weeks from now shows no/little progress, does this sound like a reasonable reason to sue? I am (was) an active athletic guy, and have been very inactive the last 6 months. Not to mention that I can't work on the new house I just bought, or play with my 4yr daughter...

Barring the nurse's opinion, my suggestion is to seek the opinion of another Doc. Get copies of your Xrays and take them to a specialist or another General Practice doc. If there is something wrong, they should know.

I have to agree with JusticeSeeker; get a second opinion. I suggest another Orthopedic surgeon or orthopedic MD.

Seven months seems too long, but I have no experience with orthopedics past the acute phase.
