What if any rights do the grandparents have in AL? The grandparent's son has what is considered a terminal illness, and they and a sibling have been threatening the children's mother and trying (physically!) to remove the children's father and their grandchildren from the residence where the children live with their mother and father. The sibling comes over unannounced and leaves with the children's father (whose mental state at this point is very bad due to the medications) without any kind of message or other kind of notification that they have taken this ill person. As a result, the distraught wife has spend hours trying to find someone that she thinks may have wandered off and might be hurt. They obviously do not care about the affect their behavior has on the wife. The wife has been told that trying to get the father out of the house without her knowledge is just the first step in trying to get the children away from the wife, which given the grandparents and sibling's past behavior, is what they want to achieve. So would they be able to do something like this, and what rights do the grandparents have? What can the wife/mother do about this situation legally?

She can go to court and file for guardianship of her husband based on his medical condition. Even though she is married and technically doesn't need custody, its probably wise to file for custody of her children too. If the grandparents and sibling did manage to temporarily remove the children from the home, (based on the fact that they removed the father) she would have to do that anyway.

Legally the grandparents and sibling really can't do that. However I can envision a scenario where they snatch dad and the kids, and the police won't help her because she doesn't have a court order for custody and because the kids are with dad.
