What is the name of your state? New Mexico

I recently resigned from one employer and got a job doing the same thing for another employer. During this time, I have been in the middle of getting my mortgage re-financed. But in order to do that, the lender is asking for a verification of employment from my former employer, but my former employer will not provide it! I have no idea why. Perhaps they did not like my resignation. I don't know. But is refusing to provide a VOE legal? If so, they are interfering with my ability to get a loan, so how can that be legal? What if this happened to someone attempting to get a first mortgage? "Sorry, you're stuck in that apartment until we get 2 years of verified employment." No way!

While I agree it's not always fair and I can't think of a logical reason why an employer would refuse, the employer is under no legal obligation whatsoever to provide a verification of employment.
