What is the name of your state? California

A close friend has just had a hysterectomy last night and it was discovered during the clean up, after she had been sewed up that the packaging material as long your arm, has been left inside of her and has travelled into her. They are not sure if this will pass naturally, if she will need a colonoscopy or if she will need another surgery. The family is at the hospital and is very angry. They had a bad feeling as the surgery did not start until 5:00 PM and she did not get out until 2:00 AM. Also she was awake and agitated during surgery and she could hear everything and knew that they had made a mistake.

Would it be appropriate to call an attorney now or would that negatively affect her care? The family would like to have an advocate.

I feel confident that an attorney will be willing to come to the hospital and meet with the patient, if that is the patient's wishes. It's not too soon to make the call.
