My neice's divorce was finalized in 2003 and her ex was appointed all of the outstanding charges of credit cards etc in exchange for her not claiming any of his 401K or retirement benefits. Since the divorce was final, he has now filed and was granted bankruptcy on the debts he was awarded and the creditors have told my neice that she is now responsible. Her divorce lawyer won't do anything about this and other lawyers have told her they can't do anything. Is this true? Is she now liable for these debts even though the divorce judge awarded them to her ex? What is left for her to do about this? She hopes to not file bankruptcy because she has struggled and proudly taken care of all her responsibilities with the children.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
