My friend was cited at the airport 2 days ago for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana...the security folks found it when they couldn't identify an object in his carryon lugage and searced his carry on. He was allowed to board, etc. But what is the penalty? A fine? How much? A court appearance?
(I know, it was dumb to carry pot in his carryon...the unidentified can had lighter fluid in itfor his Zippo lighter, which was also dumb.)
Thanks,
Maya

If he faces no other charges by possession of less than an ounce of marijuana (H&S 11357(b)), then he will be subject to a $100 fine with some possible court fees and assessments attached ... possibly as high as a total of $300 or so.

He - or his attorney - will almost certainly have to show up in court.

And yes, that was a stupid thing to do ... bringing dope into a courthouse or an airport where you can be searched at will is the act of someone who may have smoked just a tad too much bud.
