I took a government Contract job in the Middle East. I'm working for the US Army. The question, or concern I have is this...

During the hiring process, and even the inprocessing process prior to departing the US there was nothing mentioned, or written regarding a Probationary Period. This was never disclosed UNTIL, we get to our deployed locations. We have job titles, but nothing really stating WHAT we actually do. I was hired on as a Satellite Communications Technician, pretty easy job. But now I'm being told I have to do other functions, while related to SATCOM, it's actually duties under another position. Since I'm in a supposed probationary period it feels as if they can have me do anything they want... "They" isn't the government, but the company I work for holding my contract. There is of course a nasty little clause in the contract anyways that states that they can terminate me for any reason, and I can quit for any reason, at any time... So what's the point of a probationary period? Eitherway, alot of stuff wasn't passed onto us until we got in country, additional stuff that wasn't in our hiring on packages.

In a nutshell, Is this company, or any company obligated anywhere under law to disclose EVERYTHING prior to me not just accepting the position, but also prior to me leaving the US? What recourse does one have in a situation such as this?

Thanks..

p.s. job pays well enough, quite well even.. it's just job duties and functions aren't defined.. not even verbally. My e-mails with such questions aren't answered. I know if you have a defined job, w/ duties, etc.. and you stick to that, you usually won't have a problem.
