Subcontractor charges 2% per day late fees.

An Indiana subcontractor is attempting to charge 2% per day in late fees. This was in fine print on his contract which I did not sign. He performed the work and was paid within thirty days. Is this legal? My understanding is that the subcontractor has to allow me 30 days to collect from my client. Also, 2% per day seems like loan sharking.
