What is the name of your state? Michigan.
I received a ticket in the mail for failing to stop at a stop sign on a college campus five days earlier. I was not stopped or informed of the infraction when it occured. Ticket was issued by Campus Security, cost is $25. Is it legal to issue a ticket in this manner? Is one required to stop at a crosswalk on private property if no pedestrians are present? Thanks.

Receiving the ticket in the mail is perfectly legal. As for private property, you had better do a bit of research. Unless the university is solely private in the real sense, it's probably a state university with all powers of policing available under statute.

And yes, you must come to a complete stop at a crosswalk, even if there are no pedestrians present. Or did you flunk that part of your driver's exam?

Thanks you for your response. The campus is a private college - not a state university. The crosswalk in question has a stop sign for drivers travelling one direction - drivers heading in the opposite direction do not stop. So much for having to stop at all crosswalks.
