What is the name of your state?CT

I am 18 years old, a legal adult in the state of CT. I tried to go to college and receive financial aid only to find out you need your parents signature and financial information for this because federally you are not an adult until 24. How do I go about getting around this? Can you get emancipated over 17 years of age?
