Changed status from F1 to H-1B while in the US. Wish to travel home to Japan for 10 days vacation. No visa in passport. What do I need to get back into USA? Can I get it before I leave USA? How quickly can I get it when in Japan (home country)? Is 10 days too short a time for such a trip? What should I do? Thanks for help.

I'm not sure, but you should contact your country's embassy/consulate here... they should know.. Generally the visa to re-enter is issued at the embassy in your home country. And there is a great variation in the amount of time, depending on which country and how many applications there are to process.
