My husband works for a company based out of Iowa. He is scheduled to have shoulder surgery this Friday and was informed yesterday that his company has sold out to another company. As of right now he does not even know if he has a job with the new owners! I know we have a legal right to COBRA for up to 18 months and so our surgery should be somewhat covered medically. However, he had filled out short-term disability papers as the doctor expected him to be off for about 12 weeks. Is he still covered by some kind of reserve or does he no longer have STD now that the company is officially sold to another? Can we do anything legally about this since this was already in the works so to speak before they just abandoned him?
