What is the name of your state? CA
I'm German and got a parket ticket in San Francisco for street cleaning - didn't know this although tried my best to assure I did everything right.
Day of parking 10/01/04, notice from 12/30/04 received 01/10/05. In Germany it would be invalid as more than 3 months are gone before I received it.

Same in US?
Any reaonable chance to protest?

Was there no ticket on your windshield? It's customary in the U.S. to slap a ticket on the windshield. Are you back in Germany? I don't know about due process for parking violations, but if you're back in Germany, and you're not going to be in San Francisco for a year or two, I'd forget about the ticket. I got a couple of tickets there for the same reason you did. (There was no other parking available, in a not so good neighborhood - I didn't want to walk too far in that district:eek:- so I had no choice but to keep the car parked there - even though I knew I'd get a ticket.) Anyway, being from out-of-state, I knew they wouldn't pursue me for the payment, and it eventually went away. I realize that I'm suggesting a no-no, but it is an option. Why don't you try calling the SFPD, and ask them about the length of time it took for you to receive the ticket?

Lucy, thanks. I'm back in Germany and thought about that n-no option. Any risk for the next business trip immigration to be expected?
Yes, I got the ticket at the windshield but in Germany it's common to wait if you get a direct mailed ticket within the 3 months.

Anybody elso to know about the LIMITATION of a CA parking ticket?

Pay it and then you do not have to worry about this.

No telling what sets off the alarms at the airport these days!

Was the vehicle you were using at the time, a rental? Is that how you were tracked down in Germany? I did a little looking, and it appears that they will attempt to collect at the time of re-registration, although I didn't fing anything specific about rentals. It would seem to me that if you are very concerned about it, contact the City of SF and ask them to reduce the delinquency penalties for the ticket.....and pay it.

Dear all,
thanks a lot for the advice. It was a rental car. I'll call the city for reduction and will pay to avoid too much troubles for my next trip to the US.
BTW, we have cancelled several internationial meetings in the US for disagreement with the immigration "horror" (and partly Bush's politics) and shifted them to Asia.
Take care of your democratic and justice system .... it's loosing reputation significantly all over Europe (at least!).

Have you noticed that Europe is growing more socialistic every day?

And we should be worried about what they think of us!

What a joke.
