My friend just got a 30 day eviction notice today. He has lived in the apartment for 6 years on a month to month basis. No reason was given and as far as I know he hasn't been late with the rent or broken any rules. I know the building is up for sale. He is unemployed due to severe vision problems so it will be hard for him to find a new place. What recourse does he have?

If he's on a month to month lease then either party can terminate the lease without any penalty upon 30 days notice. Your friend better start looking for a new place to live.
