What is the name of your state? NY

I just noticed this: the Notice of Action my friend received after filing I-485 has a receipt date (June 25, 2003) and notice date (October 3, 2003) but no priority date. What does that mean?

Priority date is only relevant before filing the I-485 as it determines when and whether one is able to file the I-485 (as in whether the dates are current). If the I-485 is already filed, then the concept of priority date is no longer relevant because the AOS is already pending.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance to you in this matter.
