H1B: easy ? lawyer necessary ?

This is for a friend. A ingeneering company is ready to hire him (he's an environment engineer). We know he willl not be able to get his H1B before October, because the quotas are already reached. He is wondering if he can prepare his H1B on his own, or if it is absolutely necessary to go through a lawyer (he does not have a lot of $$ and the company is already paying for the actual H1B application). How easy is it to prepare an H1B on your own ? How long does it take ? Thank you for him.

It's not absolutely necessary to have an attorney prepare the H-1B petition but it is advisable especially if he wants to make sure he gets it done correctly and has not ever done one before. The attorney fee for the H-1B petition should be no more than 1200-1500 dollars.
