What is the name of your state? Florida

My brother in law served 10 years in the Navy.(1977 thru 1987) He reenlisted for an additional 2 years, had approx. 15 months left. He took leave because his mother was ill, and had surgery. She wasn't doing well and he requested additional time, and was denied. He chooses to stay at his mother’s side, and did not return.

18 years have passed; he was stopped for a traffic violation, and taken into custody for a "Military Hold". He has been in the county jail for the past 2 days "waiting" for the Military Police to pick him up.

What happens now? The base that he was stationed at when he left is no longer there.

Should the family retain an attorney immediately? Or should we wait until he is "processed" with the Military?

Also, he needs medicine daily for an overactive thyroid , and he has not gotten it so far while at the county jail.
