My mom died almost a year ago. She went into the hospital for emergency gallbladder surgery, the surgery went well, so they put her in a room to recover. Her boyfriend talked to her that morning, she said she was ok, other than the pain. Later that day she went into cardiac arrest and was not revived until 22 minutes later. At that point her brain was damaged so badly that she did not respond to several tests. We were told that there was no indication of her brain functioning at all. We removed her from life support 3 days later and requested an autopsy. The autopsy came back that she had "strep" infection so badly around her heart that it caused it to stop. Now, my question is, would the doctor have noticed that before he performed the surgery? Isn't that why such advanced screenings are in place? If more information is needed, it can be provided. Thanks
