"Termination" means you no longer work for the company. There are two types of termination; voluntary and involuntary. When you quit, that's a voluntary termination. When you are laid off, downsized, or fired, that's an involuntary termination.

When the company tells you that they have no further use for your services, and there is no hope of your being recalled, that's a firing.
