What is the name of your state?Kristy, Oregon
We have lived in our house for 7 years 5 mo. The fence has been on this property for 17+ years. (Build by at least 3 owners ago.) The lot next to us has been sold and a preliminary survey has been done showing that our fence is 6-8 feet on their property. How does the adverse possession law work? An official survey has been ordered but they want us to give them a written agreement that we will move the fence. Where do we stand on the issue. Do we have any rights?

Get a survey. If it turns out that your fence is on thier land. You must ask your self do I really want to take thier land.

Even if you still do realize that you need to spend a lot of money in a civil case to acquire quite title to the land.

good luck!
