What is the name of your state? California

Ok. here it is... I joined the California Army National Guard in March of 2001. . but was not sent to Basic training in Fort Sill until Novemeber of 2001.. aprox 1 month after starting basic. we were sent home for Christmas Leave. at that point I never returned back to Fort. Sill. .. around September of 2003 I was arrested on a Assult Charge at which point the "deserter warrant" came up. after holding me 3 days.. the local authorities released me with some papers saying for me to report back to Fort. Sill. I called the number that was on the paper and was told that Greyhound would have a ticket waiting for me there. when i went to greyhound. they had no idea of what i was talking about. or anything. when i tried to call the AWOL division back. i never got any response... on 2 other ocassions since then my name has been ran by the police. and nothing happend. but around a month ago I recieved a new letter saying my name was being added to the NCIC.. and after that. my name was ran by the police another time.. and nothing... any suggestions... Is there any place i can call to get this taken care of.? I highly doubt they "forgot" about me.. but I dont want it to bite me in the @$$ later on down the line when i have things going for myself.... any information is greatful. please save the critisim. Im here for advise. not a lecture. thank you in advance.

you are awol from active duty, because you didnt show back up. i dont think that you will get in much trouble, but i would definatly get it taken care of

More encouragement...you are doing the right thing by getting this behind you. Try any military base...even if all you have is a recruiting office, they will point you in the right direction. Of course, take all your military docs. with you.

By AWOL division do you mean 502 626 3722/3724/3711/3712/3713 or Mrs. Hartman at 502 626 3717

the number I listed above with 502 area code is the Federal Deserter Hotline, obviously a federal office, located at Ft Knox, I believe. Nice people. Don't ask for any any info except SSN or name. They can tell you if they have your file, (which would mean you are deemed a deserter, which in itself, is only a term. It may or may not be an indication of what you would be charged with upon your return) As far as I could tell, this office is the definitive place at which you will find out your status. Call them. The number I listed may be a M-F 8-5 office.

Also the fact that you had your ID run by the cops and nothing came up isn't something you want to bank on. You may have fallen through the cracks a time or two, and you might continue to fall through those cracks. The consequences of continueing as you are and eventually having all the paper work etc catch up with you are pretty grim....much more so then if you voluntarily go back.

I WILL agree with a previous poster on another thread that the TREND for those who voluntarily return to military control is being booted out of the military quickly, with a OTH discharge. I have had contact with a few ( one notable female who had been AWOL for approx. one year) who are looking at general courts martial or enforcement of completion of military contract or both. Still this is better than being arrested and carted away when you are 50.....

deserter

you were declared a deserter. when you were arrested, your name was taken out of the system. it will take a while for them to do all the paperwork for your name to be entered again. if you do not go to ft sill on your own, ;when you are entered again you will be declare an escape risk and will stay in jail until you are escorted to ft sill and the charges will be greater. GO TO FT SILL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
