heirship of adopted grandchild

currently in a succession for my grandparents. one of their daugters died, leaving her 2 children as heirs. she originally had 2 children (1son 1 daughter) the son died when his son was about a year old & he was adopted by my aunt. is he still entitled to his father's inheritance and his own as an adopted child. in other words, would their portion of the estate split 2 ways or 3?
