What is the name of your state? Colorado

I have four children and have been paying child support since 1993. Two of my children are over 21 and are on there own. I have a 18 yr. old that has graduated from High School, but is still living with his mother. When do I stop playing child support?

My understanding is that after the child turns 18 and is not going to school, (High School or college) that legally child support stops.

Thanks for your time!

Is your support order from CO? If not, then all below is moot.

If so, CS stops in CO at 19 or via emancipation by military, marriage, etc. You'll have to file a form, pay a filing fee (about $90, IIRC), and get the court order that support is to cease on the various emancipated kids. You'll need to recalculate support for the remaining kid/s; either on Schedule A or B. Do not expect help from CSE.

Here's forms and info from the Colorado courts page:

Two Older Children

Do I have too file anything on my two older (Children - one is 23 the other 21) by law to stop child support? I don't want any problems later on with my x-spose. Both children are living on thier own for some time now.

You also didn't answer if your order is from CO. These questions are important to your case, not just because we're curious.

You have to file for everyone, everything, every time.

Oh yeah. Tho I was wiped out Saturday. Girls woke me up at 3am (they had not yet been to bed  ) convinced someone was trying to break in. "Girls - my computer is on and I am logged in to Yahoo IM. The knocking you heard was someone coming online." Then I had mine up at 8 since one of the other girls had to get up for soccer. She was totally wired and ended up spending the day with a friend at our house, and then going back to hers for another sleepover. I sent them off and poured myself a stiff drink.

So, a good time was had by (almost) all! ;)

Life passes by so quickly, children grow up so fast. I just wanted to stop a minute and celebrate your fun with you.

I myself am dealing with the freshly empty nest...so I enjoyed reading about your UN-empty one! :)

Thanks!

Thank You for your information. By the way, yes I did file in Colorado.

Since my child support started in 1993 and I have paid the same amount even when my two older children left home, I will proably just keep paying the same amount untill the last child id 19 and then I will file for all of them at once, (just easier).

We had joint custody and so my child support wasn't huge, although I also pay for all the medical benifits and half of evrything that the medical insurance dosen't pick up.

Anyway, thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!
