What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?texas I had a warrant issued back in 1997 for a bad check. I was wondering if the warrant is still good or has the statue of limitations of 7 years kicked in and the warrant is no longer any good? I had a lawyer tell me a couple of years ago that I could just wait until the statue of limitations of 7 years came over this warrant and then the warrant would not be good any longer. What is correct?

Standard answer on statute of limitations:

The statutes on limitations is, among other things, a statute telling the government how long it has to file a criminal charge. It stops running the day the charge is filed.

This is not a game of tag where, if you can keep from getting caught, you are home free.

Some states and jurisdictions will pull old warrants after awhile; some states and jurisdictions keep warrants active forever.

My best advice: surrender.
