Several questions about attorneys and settlement payments.

I have a question about "gross proceeds paid to attorneys" and "payments to attorneys." It looks like any payments to attorneys that are for legal services should be reported in Box 7.

If a payment had to do with a settlement, and the attorney's name is one of the payees (or just listed in the address portion?), that amount should go in Box 14?

If my company paid a settlement to an individual (property damage is what we usually pay), and there was or was not an attorney involved, does a 1099-Misc need to be issued?

If the company paid a settlement to a company (who had the assistance of an attorney, but we don't know the attorney's name and the payment went directly to the payee), is there a need for a 1099-Misc, and if so, to whom does it go and what Box?

Help. We are dealing with this right now.
