in a divorce settlement my ex has to pay me half of the bills we paid during marriage. In the decree it says he has to pay me "directly", does that mean he has to bring it to me personnally and hand it to me?

he can deliver it in person if he wants. he can also mail it to you, use carrier pigeon, or have someone else drop it off at your house.

the order means he doesn't have to send it to a third person (your attorney).

How about in a flask carried by a St. Bernard?

Paypal (if he pays the fees) would also work!

And I doubt he has to write a check each time you pay a bill. Likely he would reconcile with you once a month, or within a given time frame..
