My wife purchased a timeshare about 14 years ago. She has made all her payments and was under the impression her taxes were part of her monthly payment. Recently she received a notice her taxes hadn't been paid for the last 10 years . She offered to make payments but was refused and told they could only accept the full amount . As of March 2005 she received a letter stating the payoff was just over two thousand dollars. We called at the beginning of April to make payment and were told the cost was now over twenty two hundred dollars. When asked why there was such an increase they (Riverside County) stated these were fees to process paperwork and prepare the timeshare for sale in June. Is there any legal recourse to get the total amount due reduced (the fact that no prior notice of late payment was received until this year) or if we decide to let the timeshare go would filing a quitclaim be a prudent step?
