We recently place a beautiful brand new shed in what we considered our side yard. A neighbor complained that the shed was in our front yard. After reviewing the zoning laws, our side yard is actually considered our front yard as it has the shorter width of the property since we have a corner lot. The front door and main entrance of our home is technically considered our side yard.
To move the shed, would create hardship as the so called rear yard is quite unlevel and occupied by trees.
Additionally, there are many other residents in town who have their sheds in side yard and not in the rear yard.
If the zoning board requireas us to move the shed, would the other residents in town who have improperly zoned sheds be required to move their sheds also?
Thanks,
Shed up in NJ

Maybe it depends on the other situations. You said there are others that have their sheds in their "side yards" not in their "rear yard" that’s not the issue with yours though because they have determined that your shed is in your "front yard" due to the space between the street being the shortest length. So, unless the others that have their shed in their "side yard" are on a corner lot and their "side yard" is shorter making it technically their "front yard" then they would not have to move the shed, if sheds are allowed in the "side yard". The reason you have to move yours is because it's in what's considered your front yard anyone else that has this exact situation may be forced to move theirs as well. As far as your hardship claim goes one might say if you can not place your shed in your back yard then maybe you should not have a shed. I don't think that their is any reason that you "need" a shed and if you "want" one you will have to comply with the rules/laws reguarding owning one.
