The biofather of my son wants to sign over his parental rights. My boyfriend is wanting to adopt my son which is what I also want.
How is this whole situation persued? What is the first step that needs to be made?

First you will probably need to be married and then wait a year at the minimum. Then file and show how taking away the bio father and child support is in the best interest of the child. It's not about you and what you and your boyfriend want. It's about what is best for the child.

#1 Get Married and wait one year.
#2 Your husband files for a Step-Parent adoption.
#3 The bio dad may relinquish his rights during the adoption process.

Just be ready for bio dad to change his mind between now and then.
