In 1999, a judgement was obtained during a civil suit against my husband in the amount of over $10,000. Although this judgement has been difficult because of it being placed on his credit report, we have been able to provide documentation and paperwork to satisfy lenders and have not felt a real impact from the judgement.
We recently applied for a home equity loan to refinance our house for a lower interest rate and also to purchase a piece of property and were told that this judgement that originally was in the amount of $10,000 is now a lien against our home in the amount of $55,000 due to interest. We received no paperwork or notification of this lien and was not able to find it on the county recorder's web site. I am not sure how to proceed at this time. This was a frivolous lawsuit to begin with and we are the "David" trying to fight "Goliath" against this multi-millionaire. Any advice will be appreciated.
