What is the name of your state? NC

My grandparents owned real estate [state of NC]that is listed on the deed as "[First Name, Last Name] Heirs". They had 5 living children. The next to the last living child wrote a statement "leaving" her share to her only living brother. He just died. If we sell this property, is his spouse entitled to receive a portion of the proceeds? If so, what portion (her husband's plus her sister in law's)?

WAs the grandparent's estate probated? Was there a will? How is title NOW held? Was each deceased sibling's share probated and transferred to their respective estates?
