When I moved into my NJ apartment in July 1st, 1997, I was given a one year
lease. That one year lease expired July 1st, 1998. A
new lease was not created until Febrary 15, 1999 which
covered April 1st, 1999 to March 31st, 2000. I have
been living there since March 31st, 2000, without a
lease. They did raise the rent earlier this year but a
new lease was not issued. So, what I am wondering is am
I currently bound to anything in that lease? There is no the lease states that if no changes are made in the lease, the tenant may continue to rent on a month to month basis (with the rest of the lease remaining the same). Earlier this year my rent was increased but no new lease was issued. Does this mean that legally I am living in this apartment without a lease?
