As committee chair on a building project for a church, I received a call yesterday from the Design firm which had done work for our architect. Our architect subcontracted the electrical and plumbing mechanical drawings with this firm but has failed to pay the $7300 fee owed for the work. Since they cannot get the architect to pay, they are threatening to put a lien on our building. We have a contract with our architect only and had no contract with this design firm. Can they put a lien on our building? What recourse does our congregation have in this, as we have paid our architect and have no contract with the design firm? Any advice will be appreciated.

Yes, the property can be liened by those design consultants. File a civil and regulatory complaint againt the architect and ray for him in church this Sunday. And every Sunday until he pays. The Bible states, "do not cast stones on thy architect who does not pay workers, for he will pay again at judgement day." HomeGuru 3:16
