We had a business that failed miserably several years ago. There was a business loan that had attached a lien on our home at that time. It was SBA guaranteed. Since that time we have not been contacted by the bank or the SBA, but have been paying on our 1st mortgage timely. I do know the bank came in and sold all of the business' equipment when we left, so I wouldn't have a clue if there even would be a balance at this point. (afraid to ask) We'd like to refinance because of the lower current rates. How can we find out whether that old lien is still there? I've tried online title searches but apparently our county has not provided mortgage information because it does not show any mortgages at all.
If we had to include part or all of that amount we could not afford to refinance. Is there any chance that something like might disappear given enough time, and if so how lonf does it take?
