I was pulled over for speeding 44 mph in a 25 mph zone. I do not believe that I was going that fast. I asked the police officer if I could see his radar detector--he refused. What I want to know is: can I contest the ticket I was issued based on the police officer's refusal to let me see the radar? I heard from a friend that there is a statute which proclaims this as a driver's right--does anyone know if this statute really exists? Thanks.

As a former Police Officer, I can tell you that if the guy who wrote you the ticket was approaching you on the roadway he was going faster than the speed limit. That is why he refused to show you the radar. On most radar units, you have two speeds.. the Officer's Car, and the Suspect's Car. At the time the Radar is "locked" in.. the speed of the Officer's Car is locked in also. If it were me, I would fight it in Court. Sounds a little hokey if he would not show you the Radar. Most tickets if pushed will be dismissed or at least kept off your record.
