I was ticketed for driving around a barricade that said street closed. [Driving around barricade] on the ticket. The street is not nor never has been closed. There is also no contruction scheduled for this street. Only half the street is blocked. Coming from the other direction you can proceed on through. If you access this street from any other access, you can drive either direction from one end to the other freely without being ticketed. It would appear that the city does not want anyone accessing this street from one direction. But does not indicate as such. There are no signs indicating no through traffic, one way or no right turn. This barricade has been up for 4-5 months. and they just sit and ticket anyone going around. Can these barricades be put up on any street and then sit and ticket people??? Is this worth fighting??? If so how?? State of Minnesota.

Each state and city has its own particular rules on what must be done to close streets, or make them "one way" and the types of notice, public hearing and/or filing that is required.

If the police were using a barricade to circumvent the required steps to make a street one way you may have a defense, but ususally a police barricade is short term and must be obeyed.

Consider pleading not guilty, hope the cop does not show, and if he does tell the judge that this is a circumvention of the rules to make a one way street and call city hall first to get the proceedures dow right.. But it sounds like a loser and you better have a good story as to why you didn't obey -- I didn't feel like it does not impress judges.

nstead of a n some places to say street closed.
