I was involved in a crash in 97 on the highway. The road was=
extremely foggy and I ran into a stopped car carrier. Both=
lanes were stopped because of another accident being cleared up=
ahead. The driver of the truck rushed up and asked if I was=
okay and next thing I knew I heard the screeching of brakes as=
another driver ran into the back of me. That driver approached=
me and asked if I was okay and apologized for running into me. =
Next thing we knew we heard another screech of brakes and I got=
clipped slightly in the side. A minute or so later a semi=
applied it's brakes turned to the right lane to avoid us all and=
ended up jackknifing into an overpass that the truck ahead of me=
was under. I was told by the police that my insurance was not=
valid according to their records. When I contacted the=
insurance company I was told I was not covered and the local=
office was holding onto my last payment (which my wife sent in=
late). I am trying to clear up my license now and understand I=
must go to court first because of an injury that occurred to the=
truck driver who ran into the overpass. I am not sure what is=
going to go on during the court appearance or what my=
responsibility is in regard to the accident. Obviously I feel=
responsible for running into the car carrier, but everyone else=
seems as responsible for running into me or whereever as much as=
I was responsible for running into the car carrier. I am in=
Florida and want to get my license cleared up (it is suspended=
now). What am I looking at and what free advice would you give=
me regarding the situation. I never received any paperwork form=
the insurance company regarding a lapse of coverage of my=
insurance.
