I was involved in a traffic accident and there has been no citation issued. Is there a statue of limitations as to when one can be issued? And if I have not been cited how does that work with my insurance company? Does a case remain opened until someone has been issued one and found guilty for causing the accident? I don't get it! I'm confused.

They say ignorance of the law is no defense, but then wouldn't we all be attorney's?

Help! I admit I'm ignorant of the law and that's why I'm asking? Help me to become more informed.

Thank You,

You're at the right place to learn about the law!

In general the insurance company has its own rules for determining who is at fault and who has a "chargeable" accident. If the cop issues a ticket they almost automatically assume you are at fault. If not they rely on their regular historically developed rules. It impacts your rates next renewal.
