Passing Zone Too Short

I was recently cited for 3points and
$168.00.
Traveling on a unfamiliar road , I was
the second car in a group of
five.Weather was partly cloudy/sunny.
Road conditons were shiny-wet from
earlier rain. Time - 5pm.
The lead car was traveling 48 to 50mph,
when a passing zone opened, I began to
pass, it was only two tenths of a mile
long and the car I was passing was of
course an unmarked police car who cited
me for passing in a no passing zone. It
can't be possible to pass safely in
that short of space, eventhough it is a
straight road for over a mile beyond
the zone.
How can I defend myself at the pretrial
conference and get the points waived
and the fine reduced?
